Flowcharting Symbols - Embedded Elements
Embedded Elements: Indicates elements such as audio, video, animation, or text embedded in the top page or screen (i.e. "Addition Playroom"). Clicking on a particular element will activate it, which is illustrated by creating a sub-page beneath the top screen (i.e. "Subtraction Play Room" and "Division Play Room"). The user still has access to the main/top screen and in some instances the element goes through a routine which, once completed, automatically returns the user to the top screen. Note: The user is not actually going to a different page but is simply activating a particular area with its own function to complete before returning to the regular program stream. (i.e. "Harry and the Haunted House")

Embedded Elements Numbering: When a number is placed on top of the sub-page it indicates how many elements can be accessed from it. Therefore, the number "30" indicates that there are thirty clickable elements on the top screen, "Addition Play Room." The "+6" indicates that it contains elements which, once selected, go through a routine that permanently changes the top page; the number "6" refers to the number of possible top screens that can be created by clicking on all of the elements. |

Sub-sub Pages: The arrow leading out from the "Division Play Room" page indicates that this embedded element screen has its own embedded elements. In this case, the "Division Play Room" is a page of embedded text, with 12 hypertext links. These links, when clicked, activate another page of embedded text. Example: Refer to Savannah College of Art and Design. |
