Problems with Software Installation

Found New Hardware Wizard or Add New Hardware Wizard appears when the scanner is connected (Windows only).

CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM menu fails to appear with disk in drive.

"Uninstall is incomplete" error message appears during Adobe Reader installation (Windows only).

Installation is unsuccessful (Insufficient free hard disk space).

Installation is unsuccessful (Insufficient memory).



Found New Hardware Wizard or Add New Hardware Wizard appears when the scanner is connected (Windows only).
 
  Cause: Scanner connected without first installing the software from the CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM.
  Solution: Click the [Cancel] button in the Found New Hardware Wizard or Add New Hardware Wizard to close it. Install the software from the CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM.

CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM menu fails to appear with disk in drive.
 
  Cause 1: CD-ROM incorrectly placed in drive.
  Solution: Reposition the CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM in the drive.
 
  Cause 2: Dirty CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM or CD-ROM drive.
  Solution 1: Gently dust or wipe off the dirt on the CD-ROM with a soft cloth.
  Solution 2: Gently wipe fingerprints and other smears from the CD-ROM with a soft cloth or an eyeglass cleaner, being extremely careful not to scratch the CD-ROM.
  Solution 3: Remove dust and dirt from the CD-ROM drive with a blower brush for a camera lens.
 
Do not wipe the CD-ROM drive's sensor directly with a cloth or other item. It could cause the drive to malfunction and cease to read CD-ROMs.
 
  Cause 3: Auto start setting for CD-ROM set to Off or program won't start for some reason.
  Solution: Use the following procedures to start CanoScan Setup Utility directly.
Windows:
1. For Windows XP, click the [Start] menu, followed by [My Computer]. For other Windows systems, double-click the [My Computer] icon on the desktop.
2. Double-click the [CANOSCAN] CD-ROM drive icon.
3. Double-click the [MSETUP4] icon.
Macintosh:
Double-click the [Setup] icon.
 
The CD-ROM drive may not be operating correctly if the CanoScan CD-ROM drive icon, or MSETUP4(Windows)/Setup(Macintosh) icon do not appear. Please contact the manufacturer of your computer.
If you cannot find the MSETUP4(Windows) icon when you double-click the CD-ROM icon, the CD-ROM may be damaged. Contact a Customer Support Help Desk.

"Uninstall is incomplete" error message appears during Adobe Reader installation (Windows only).
 
  Cause: Other version of Acrobat Acrobat Reader/Acrobat Reader remains on the computer.
  Solution:
1. Click the [Preview] button to rescan the preview image.
2. Uninstall the other version of Adobe Acrobat Reader to finish installation.
When Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.05 or higher version is already installed, you can use scanner.
When older version of Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed, uninstall first, and then reinstall again.

Installation is unsuccessful (Insufficient free hard disk space).
 
  Cause: Insufficient free hard disk space.
  Solution: Obtain enough free hard disk space as following and reinstall.
Windows:
* Delete unnecessary files and application programs in the hard disk drive (C:). Be sure to right-click the [Recycle Bin] icon and select [Empty Recycle Bin].
* Click the [Start] menu and select [(All) Programs] followed by [Accessories], [System Tools] and [Disk Cleanup] to delete unnecessary files in the hard disk drive.
* Delete files in c:\Windows\Temp folder (with Windows 2000, c:\Winnt\Temp folder).
* With Windows 2000/XP, delete files in c:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temp folder.
Macintosh:
* Select unnecessary files, click the [File] menu and select [Move to Trash], and click the [Finder] menu and select [Empty Trash].

Installation is unsuccessful (Insufficient memory).
 
  Cause: Insufficient memory to run the installer program.
  Solution: Close other software programs that are running and reinstall.
